The ‘uberization’ of everything has given rise to fear in the heart of traditionalists. Entrenched business models and revenue streams are under attack from data aware competitors. The swift shift has highlighted the fact that no-one is immune to sudden disruptive change.
“Tech changes very quickly, since making the switch (to SalesAtWork) we are now more agile and evolve, rather than change. We now strive to push the boundaries on what’s next.”
Pundits and predictors of the information technology industry - Gartner, Forrester and International Data Corporation (IDC) - are all warning that just about every industry is in the throes of major disruption through the transformational power of IT.
Consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers have made notable steps to improve the effectiveness of their trade investments over the past few years. However, these efforts have not led to consistently stronger financial performance for most companies, says a report from PwC company, Strategy&. It says this is, in large part, "because many of the trade initiatives are piecemeal efforts that lack a central coordinating premise."
Traditionally trade promotion activities have been directed to offering customers special offers via physical channels: in-store, in the mail etc, but as buyers increasingly research products and prices online, trade promotion will need to enter the virtual world.
According to consulting firm, Accenture, robust consumption fuelled by a rapidly growing consumer class, rising incomes and urbanisation will generate $US770 billion in new consumer spending in the ASEAN region over the next few years and create tremendous new business potential for consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies.
Trade Promotion Management systems are becoming more powerful but this is leading them to being co-opted to purposes for which they were never designed.
