A man charged in a 2020 Aggieville shooting accepted a plea agreement with the Riley County attorney’s office.
Following some discussion between the prosecution and defense teams, Judge John Bosch rescheduled the plea hearing of Travell Hairston, 31, of California for Aug. 30 in Riley County District Court.
Prosecutors said they expected Hairston to plead guilty to attempted first-degree murder and four charges of aggravated assault (use of a deadly weapon) that happened Feb. 8, 2020.
In that incident, officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1000 block of Laramie Street and found an unoccupied car that had been shot at. Upon further investigation, RCPD officers concluded that multiple rounds were shot at a 27-year-old man.
Hairston was also expected to face one count of criminal discharge of a firearm and one count of criminal damage to property that occurred in 2019, when police allege he shot a gun inside a house at a party.
Hairston’s attorneys said he agreed to serve 150 months in prison, but they were worried about an aggravated charge that would add 35 months.
Deputy Riley County attorney Trinity Muth said he didn’t know about the 185 months.
If the parties don’t reach an agreement by Aug. 30, there will be a three-day bench trial.
