A Wichita man facing charges of child sex crimes appeared in court on Tuesday.
After joining the Zoom session for the preliminary examination status of Matthew Hinton, 36, Hinton’s attorney, Cole Hawver, requested a continuance.
Judge William Malcolm agreed to reschedule the examination until Sept. 12 because Hawver said the defense team awaits “electronic discovery” in the case.
Police arrested Hinton July 14 after receiving a call about two people engaging in “inappropriate behavior.” Upon arrival, officers found him in a vehicle with a 14-year-old girl on Fremont Street in City Park.
Hinton’s charges include one count of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Hinton is held at Riley County jail on a $200,000 bond for the alleged crimes.
The expected procedure following Sept. 12 is a preliminary hearing, where a state prosecutor attempts to present sufficient evidence to show probable cause. If probable cause is determined by the judge, the case will go to trial.
