Google Pixel 7 proves to be one of the best flagships of last year, coming from the operating system experts.

With that in mind, where will the Pixel 7a stand in the grand scheme? For that, let’s scrutinize it further to find out:

  • 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED screen with 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio or ~431 ppi density
  • HDR
  • 90Hz refresh rate
  • Glass front (Gorilla Glass), aluminium frame, plastic back

  • Single Sim and 5G connectivity
  • 10th May 2023 expected release date
  • 499 USD estimated price tag

There’s a shortage of small-sized devices, and this is where the Pixel 7a aims to fill in the gap. Coming in with a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED screen, it is an upgrade from last year’s AMOLED. Then we have the usual HDR and 90Hz refresh rate to make it smooth and enjoyable. Although now there won’t be any IP68-rating available, Gorilla Glass protection still makes for peace of mind.

Under the hood of the Pixel 7a will be the top-of-the-line Google Tensor G2 chipset being paired with a speedy Cortex octa-core processor, great graphics and 8GB of memory. This combo will make short work of any apps and games you put through and still be hungry for more.

Next, we have the Pixel 7a sporting a 64MP+13MP dual primary camera which might not be as extensive as other smartphones with a triple or quadruple-camera to that extent – but will still be able to deliver great-looking photos. It is packed with goodies, especially the Optical Image Stabilisation, dual-LED flash and Auto-HDR, which is nice. Then we have the 13MP selfie camera making the package complete.

If there’s any downside to the Pixel 7a, is the fact that there’s only one storage option available. You will only get 128GB of internal storage, which is peculiar when bigger storage should be available. And with no expansion slot, you will have to do some spring cleaning every now and proceed to move everything to the cloud.

Supplying the necessary juice to the Pixel 7a will be a 4500 mAh battery, which in theory, should last for a day or two in between charging. When everyone else is aiming for fast charging feature to the tune of 100W, this over here is still down with 20W. You may have to wait a few hours before it reaches full capacity.

Last but not least, the latest Android 13 operating system is available right out of the box on Pixel 7a. And with single-sim capability and 5G connectivity, that’s all there is to it.

Conclusion:

Google Pixel 7a is a mixed bag but there’s no denying the popularity of small-sized smartphones. It provides plenty of firepower and camera prowess that can’t be found in a device that is only as big as 6.1-inch. If you are a fan of such small smartphones, then this should be your weapon to upgrade.

Google Pixel 7a is said to be released on 10th May 2023 with an estimated price tag of $499 USD. There will be three colors available: Arctic Blue, Carbon, and Cotton.
