Epson WorkForce Enterprise: the workhorse of the enterprise

The laser printer/copier has long been the workhorse of the office, meeting the departmental printing requirements of organisations large and small. Now Epson Australia is challenging their dominance with its WorkForce Enterprise range of business inkjet printers that it says offer considerable advantage over their laser competitors, delivering “the ecological benefits that only inkjet technology can offer.”

According to Epson, its inkjet printers use less power and require fewer supplies than laser models with comparable performance. In addition, it says, they have far fewer moving parts than their laser equivalents so delivery higher reliability and significantly increased printer uptime.

Power consumption, according to Epson is spectacularly lower. It claims a maximum power consumption of only 320 Watts against 7600 Watts for a comparable laser printer.

There are two models in the range, the WorkForce Enterprise WF-C20590 100 page per minute and the WF-C17590 75 page per minute colour A3 printers.

Epson says both have been designed to meet the needs of departmental office printing in corporates, SMBs and SMEs, especially those that have peaks of high-volume productivity and incorporate a number of innovations to increase print quality. These include a self-maintaining printhead and an electrostatic transport belt designed to maintain quality at high speed.

Epson is positioning the new models as more than simply printers. The General Manager of the Business Division of Epson Australia, Craig Heckenberg, said: “Due to its networking capabilities the WorkForce Enterprise now represents an integrated document management solution at the heart of any office’s IT infrastructure.”

A key component of the new printers is inkjet technology that Epson first used in industrial systems, such as large-scale label presses. This technology, according to Epson, enhances performance and provides speed and reliability for highly productive teams.

“The remarkable new full width linehead design measures just 43mm across and contains approximately 33,500 nozzles that incorporate outstanding nozzle verification and variable size droplet technology designed to eliminate banding,” Epson says.

Epson has yet to announce Australian pricing for the WorkForce
Enterprise range but says it will be highly competitive with the leading brands in the 50 to 70ppm segment of the office printing market.

The 100ppm WorkForce Enterprise WF-C20590 will be available from winter 2017 and the 75ppm WF-C17590 at a later, unspecified, date.
