Oppo A53: slim 5.5-inch octa-core snapdragon 616 with 2GB RAM

oppo a53 photoIn what seems to be a new lineup from the Chinese manufacturer; Oppo A53 is set to deliver quality with affordability in the large screen market.

Oppo already has a few lineups up its sleeve and to come with the A-series seems to be unexpected. But one thing that you can’t deny about Oppo is the fact that they are stylish and gives a refreshing outlook to the smartphone industry. Not to the mention affordability as well.

In Oppo A53, you will find a super-slim smartphone that measures at 153 x 77 x 7.4 mm (6.02 x 3.03 x 0.29 in) and weighs 165 g (5.82 oz). It may lack a metal body, but its design is still pleasing to the eye. Seems like they have mastered their approach in making a device that looks very sexy.

Screen-wise, it will be sporting a 5.5-inch High Definition IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that displays 720 x 1280 pixels or ~267 ppi pixel density. It could have at least gone for a Full HD screen that would have made it great.  What you will be getting is just the bare minimum regarding resolution for a screen this big. Also missing is the Gorilla Glass protection that is quite prominent in most of Oppo’s release.

Under the hood of the Oppo A53 will be the Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz processor, Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB RAM. The performance might not be top-notch, but it is more than the average. You can still run most apps and games out there, but then again – the HD screen will ensure that it won’t get strained too much, though.

As for the camera, a 13MP-5MP setup awaits you. The photos taken are bound to be good, as Oppo does have a reliable reputation when taking photos with it. Quite interesting indeed what you can do with its camera.

Regarding storage, a quite decent 16GB internal storage is available which is further complemented by the fact that it can accommodate up to an additional 128GB via its microSD slot. Go ahead and take photos and shoot those videos all that you can.

On the OS side of things, there could be a slight concern because it is still running on Android Lollipop 5.1. So far, we have yet to receive any indication that Oppo is preparing to release an update anytime soon. It could be a case of not in this case I guess.

A sizeable Li-Ion 3075 mAh battery will be powering up the Oppo A53, which is great stuff. This can easily power up the device for at least a day or two in between charging. Also missing is the highly regarded Fast Charging capability that is pretty synonym with their devices.

In summary, Oppo A53 misses out on a lot of things. No metal body, no Gorilla Glass protection, no Full HD resolution and a few others point to a rather disappointing introduction by the Chinese manufacturer for this A-series. The only thing that we can hope is that it will be priced rather attractively to justify the ‘missing’ features.

The Oppo A53 is expected to be available very soon, but there’s no pricing information just yet. It will only be available in White/Gold.
